Review of Brown Park in St. Matthews: By Stephanie

Nestled in the middle of apartments and hospitals is a cute park in St. Matthews, Brown Park.   It is located at the corner of Browns Lane and Kresge Way, behind Mall St. Matthews....well, that's the general direction.  We went there today and the weather was perfect.  We started at the playground. It is a small playground as it is geared toward kids under the age of 6. There are no swings, but my kids didn't seem to care. It was quite busy and I think my kids really liked that!  There are no real bathrooms, but there are port-a-potties.  Also, right next to the playground is a picnic shelter.  The playground is not completely fenced in so my kids kept wandering because they are the wandering types.

After playing and picnicking, we walked the short distance to a little bridge that crosses a stream.  Here, there are geese and ducks swimming, flying and walking about.  We had crackers and bread (thanks to a nice family that strolled by) and fed the ducks for a while.  We didn't go for a walk but there were plenty of people walking the paced paths.  There's lots of grassy space for throwing down a blanket and having a picnic. This is definitely a park to check out! Head there soon with your family for some fun, the weather is perfect.

Locker Soccer: By Stephanie

Locker Soccer is an indoor facility in Middletown run by owner Rob Zimmerman, aka Coach Rob.  I took my children for a playgroup there and we had a fantastic time. We will be signing up for a class in the future.

The facilities are 'no frills' but have all of the basic needs for the class.  What was wonderful was that my son LOVED this class so much and you know, they didn't need to fancy the place up for the kids.  He loved it because of the activities and the instructor.

I felt that the class was geared right to the kids' capabilities.  Most of them were under 4 years old, and Coach Rob made the excercises engaging and simple enough for them.  They were very active the entire time and he incorporated music and balloons, what 3 year old wouldn't love that!

I definitely recommend that you check out their website and see if there is an option that might fit into your child's schedule.  Give them a call. Coach Rob was a very easy going guy and I am sure he would give you any information you may want!

Review of Berrytown Park: By Stephanie

Berrytown Park is located just north of Anchorage. It is next to the Berrytown YMCA.  It has a baseball field, 2 tennis courts and a basketball court. It also have a gazebo in the back part of the park.  There are restrooms, but they are open seasonally. I can say that I went during the YMCA business hours and when my son had to use the restroom, the YMCA staff member had no problem allowing us to use their facilities.

There is a playground and swings. They have both child swings and baby swings.  The playground has a few slides of different sizes as well as little bridges and climbing areas.  The ground is covered in wood mulch.  The playground was basic and enough for my kids to enjoy. It was nothing extraordinary. The area was clean but there was some graffiti on the playset.

Henry's Ark: By Jeanette

If you are looking for something else to do besides the zoo to get out and see animals you should take a short drive to Henry’s Ark in Prospect, KY (at 7801 Rose Island Road). This is a farm so be prepared to get a little dirty if it has rained recently. It is free, with donations accepted, to feed a variety of animals so make sure you bring lots and lots of carrots. You’ll be greeted by donkeys and emus as you drive in the parking lot. There are zebras, sheep, goats, camels, and deer to name a few animals you’ll see and get to feed. They are closed on Mondays, but  open the rest of the week.

Bring bread for the ducks and carrots for all of the other animals!  If you want to do something else that same day, you can head up 42 a but and Fuzziwig's Candy Shop will be on the right and just a bit further is the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve.

Beautiful weekend for the ZOO!

The weather in Louisville will be the best in a long time for heading to the Zoo this weekend. If you have never been, the Louisville Zoo is a great family friendly zoo.  A membership is absolutely worth the price if you think you will go a few times over the course of a year.  You can get 2 adults and 4 children in a family membership!  There are playgrounds too, not just the wonderful animals.  In the summer, the kids can enjoy the splash area as well.  The zoo also allows you to bring food in, so if you want to save some money, pack your lunch!
