Free Events and Things to do in April in Louisville By: Jeanette

April and October, I have heard, are the best months to be living in Louisville. I definitely have to agree! This month is packed full of family friendly events. Be sure to check out our previous posts relating to Easter, Earth Day, and the DERBY!

First Friday Trolley Hop at Main and Market, April 1. Enjoy riding the trolley for FREE!

Grand Opening of the Nature Explore Area at Jefferson Memorial Forest, April 2
This is an area where children, ages 3-5 years old, can play, be creative, imagine, discover, explore…the possibilities are endless. Little ones can climb on tree stumps, build with tree “cookies”, hide in the Sassafras Tree House, create with seeds, leaves, rocks and other natural materials and listen to a story under the trees.

We're doing it up big-time, with food, music, children's activities, informal playtimes and live performances, door prizes, free gifts, and even more music.

Wildflower Open House at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve, April 16
Hear special stories about the uses and history of both native plants and exotics. There will be free crafts for kids throughout the day at the Nature Center.

Crafting Touchable Gourds at American Printing House for the Blind, April 23
Art isn't just about seeing it with your eyes—it's about touching, exploring and experiencing. Participants will use art techniques such as paper mache, dry brush painting, and collage to create unique tactile art pieces from gourds—including bobble-head gourds. Free to the public, but registration is required. Call 899-2213 to register.
