Review of Derby Dinner Playhouse Children’s Theatre

My son and I attended the Derby Dinner Playhouse Children’s Theatre show on a Saturday morning for breakfast. The children’s theatre shows are performed weekdays for school groups and on Saturday for the public. The Saturday performances include breakfast or lunch, and there are season tickets available that include four children’s theatre shows at a discount.

PhotobucketWhen you first arrive at the Derby Dinner, you can shop at their little store that carries seasonal items, jewelry, toys, purses, and a number of other items. When you buy your ticket, you are assigned to a table, so there is no need to worry about getting a better or worse seat depending on the time you get there. However, there is usually a line at both doors until the entrances are open an hour before the show starts. This is because you can immediately go up to the buffet as soon as you get there, and the buffet lines build quickly. For the breakfast buffet, there was fresh fruit, biscuit and gravy, French toast sticks, scrambled eggs, potatoes, sliced ham, and more. There is orange juice and milk cartons at the the buffet, but at your table, you can have coffee or tea brought to you by your server. The servers constantly walk by to freshen you drinks, ask if you need anything, and clear plates. Then there is a count down to the show and a warning of the buffet closing. The servers prefer to pick up all your dishes before the show starts, but you can eat during the show if you chose. The servers do not come out during the production.

If the show is long, there may be an intermission, but if it is short, it will run without stopping. The actors and actresses do a great job, and my 5 year old has been very entertained, his eyes glued to the live show until the end. They do a great job at Derby Dinner, and it is a great deal for breakfast and a show – especially for the four show season pass. Find out more at http://www.derbydinner.com/
