Driving to a friend’s house one day, my husband and I spotted a sign on a telephone pole at the
intersection of Herr and Westport. It said, “Got old bikes? We give to the needy.” Being involved
with the Burrito Riders, I knew we had to check this place out. So here’s the who, what, when,
and how’s of the Trikes for Tikes:

Who: Trikes for Tikes was started through Northeast Christian Church back in 2000. They have
grown from just giving away bikes on Christmas to giving them away year around to
organizations such as Home of the Innocents, Boys and Girls Haven, Centro Latino, Catholic
Charities, St. Vincent De Paul Society, and the Beecher’s Terrace and Park Hill housing
community.
What: They repair bikes in their workshop and then give them away. They gave away over 700
bikes that they repaired last year!
When: The group works every Thursday from 6-9pm.
Where: They have a workshop set up in Crestwood at 6402
Westwind Way. It is in a stripmall
right (Arbor Ridge Point) off the 329 Bypass next to a chiropractor business.

How to get involved:

● Donations: Give away your old bikes: anything
from a toddler bike on up. It does not matter
what kind of shape it is in, they will take it. They have drop-off
locations on their website. You can also
donate helmets, bike parts, or even a monetary donation.
● Time: Get involved on Thursday nights to help repair the bikes. All ages and no
experience repairing bikes welcomed.

We stopped by there one Thursday as a family to donate some bikes and to see how we could
help. They were super friendly and great with my young kids (6, 3, and 1). My two sons were able
to get right in there with one of the guys and help fix some brakes and air up the tires. Then my
oldest got to take the bike they just fixed for a test ride to make sure it worked properly. They
loved it! They had a couch in there so in the future when we return if the kids need to take a
break they can do that too.
