My four-year-old recently started taking gymnastics classes at My Gym Louisville in Middletown and we have found his new love!
These classes are really wonderful! They usually start out with a circle time where they sing a song, act silly, stretch and exercise, and play some games together. They then venture into individual activities centered around whatever the gym activity or skill is for that day. Then they break into two groups (usually the boys go together and the girls go together with another teacher) and they work on more individual instruction and skill building. After that portion, they take a break and are allowed to explore the gym while some music plays. They gather back together again after about 10 minutes of free play and do a group activity together and a story or puppet play or something else that Mr. Bill interacts along with the children. The entire class lasts about an hour.
Mr. Bill is a fantastic teacher!! I know from the past that many people who have gone through My Gym classes absolutely rave about him. We have found what everyone loves. He is so flexible, encouraging, silly and goofy and makes all the children feel at ease and comfortable at their level.
My guy is a VERY active one if I haven't mentioned that yet, and My Gym classes have helped him to really dive into himself and learn some methods for centering himself so to speak. I've found that since he exhibits some sensory processing habits, gymnastics really helps him focus and learn some more skills to help him pay more attention, sit still a little bit longer, listen to instruction and follow through, and give him the exercise he needs to really get the energy out. It has been a fantastic experience and a weekly gig we really look forward to each week.
My Gym Louisville offers many different class times and levels for children ranging from ages 6 months to 12 years. Check out their website and Facebook page for more information. Additionally, they offer Parent's Night Out options usually twice a month, Zumba for kids and adults, summer camps, and several open practice & play time in the huge gym and play area. Open practice and play is free for enrolled members but you don't have to be a member to check it out! It's $5 for non-members.
We have used the PNO (for children ages 16 months to 8 years old) twice and our little one absolutely loves it. It's $25 for four hours from 5pm-9pm on scheduled Friday evenings ($15 for second child, $5 for additional child). They get to play all they want, and they have pizza and juice for dinner while they are there. It's a blast, and my guy never wants to leave when it's time for pick-up! Again, you don't have to be a member of My Gym to use this option.
I highly recommend this option for gymnastics for little ones! The prices are reasonable and the staff is really great with kids. Your first class is free! They also offer birthday party options which are sure to be entertaining for all. They seem to offer specials and discounts all along so check it out or give them a call at 502-614-6001. My Gym Louisville is located at 11770 Shelbyville Road.
