Review of Paddleboarding with Endless Summer Paddle at Taylorsville Lake

Writers were granted free admission for purpose of review.

Recently, some LFF writers and their families were able to enjoy a couple hours on the water at Taylorsville Lake State Park. We went out with a company called Endless Summer Paddle. They supply the paddleboats, paddles, life vests, instruction, and guides. You can go out on the water with a guides like we did, or you can rent the equipment and go out on your own. When we enjoyed the 2 hour experience (summer 2017) it was $40 per board to go out on their 2 hour instructional tour. For rental, $20 for the 1st hour and $20 for each additional hour per board. Their rule of thumb is that kids 10 and up can have their own board, but an 8 year old in our group demonstrated good balance and control of the board, and they had no problem letting her have her own paddleboard. Please not that during periods of high debris in the paddleboard area, the company prefers to have children ride on their parents' boards.

Review of Malibu Jack's Indoor Entertainment Center in Louisville, KY

photo IMG_2124_zpsl4axsykl.jpg On a summer afternoon, I had the opportunity to enjoy some time alone with my 8 yr old daughter. I presented her with some options over lunch, and Malibu Jack's won her vote. Under the Deals tab on LouFamFun, I found a link to a Groupon deal; a $20 Malibu Jack's card for only $10. Score!!

Malibu Jack's is a Kentucky-based indoor entertainment center with two locations- one in Louisville and another in Lexington. We visited in the middle of a Monday afternoon and it was not crowded. I presented the Groupon deal on my phone and received our $20 card. Malibu
Jack's cards are the currency for all activities and games inside the center. My daughter was immediately drawn to the Malibu Golf, an 18 hole mini-golf course complete with a waterfall. We found the course to be in very nice condition. It was challenging, but not frustrating. My daughter even hit a lucky bonus shot on one hole, resulting in cheers from all who witnessed it!

 photo IMG_2122_zpsvntwcpcw.jpg
After golfing, we decided to check out the arcade. We had fun playing a few skill games; tossing balls into milk jugs, bouncing a ball into a cup and a water gun game with rubber ducks. My daughter also liked "gambling" for tickets on a couple of chance games. We both enjoyed playing air hockey and had a blast on the simulated roller coaster ride. The arcade area was bright and clean, and it was easy to play any game with a swipe of the card. All tickets earned were added to the card automatically, and there was a card reader near the front desk where we could check our dollar and ticket balances. The offerings in the prize area were tantalizing, of course, so my daughter checked our ticket balance often!

The GoKarts looked super fun, so we added some more money to our card so we go for a ride and play a few more games. Guests load a card with as money as they choose, but extra bonus dollars are given for adding certain amounts. For example, I added $20, so and received an extra $2 on our card. My daughter wasn't tall enough to drive a GoKart, so we rode together. We had an absolute blast on the GoKarts even though we were the only kart on the track! The track is twisty and we were allowed to go around it several times. The kart went fast enough to make our eyes water! I will definitely have to bring my husband and son with us next time so we can race!

Review of Louisville Cream in Louisville, KY

photo FullSizeRender209_zpshi5r4lha.jpgLouisville Cream is a locally owned ice cream shop that opened its doors this summer in the popular NuLu area Louisville. Until recently, this gourmet ice cream was primarily available at local fairs and events around town. Now their delightful treats are available Wednesday - Sunday at their brick and mortar location, 632 E Market St., conveniently located next door to another local favorite, Muth's Candies.

A group of LouFamFun moms and kids decided to meet for ice cream in the middle of a Wednesday afternoon. Metered parking was easily obtained out front on Market Street. As we opened the door, we were immediately drawn in by the wonderful aroma of sweet ice cream and freshly baked waffle cones. The shop has only a handful of tables and all were in use by customers when we arrived, so we sat at the inviting window bar and began looking over the menu.

Review of Archery Class at Jefferson Memorial Forest

photo 4d5c2f93-8bba-4bae-ae8b-f948fe7a8d70_zpsnr0sndpb.jpgIn August, my son and I decided to check out the Archery Class held at Jefferson Memorial Forest.  This class helps participants learn how to safely use a bow and arrow. This program teaches "familiarization with equipment as well as the form and skills needed to hit your marks. This program is for all physical ability levels and all equipment is provided."

I didn’t realize that adults could participate along with kids 8 and older, so I only signed up my 8 year old son. We had a little difficulty finding our location at the Horine Reservation and at first visited the welcome center who then directed us to the correct location. We still struggled with the exact location but finally found it with a few minutes to spare.

Clarksville Cove Birthday Parties - a review

We were granted admission for purpose of review.

photo IMG_7802_zpsslgk7z63.jpgClarksville Cove offers birthday parties in the summer months for fun swim parties. There are a variety of time slots (parties are 1.5 hours) and packages ranging from $175 to $300.  The price differential basically considers whether or not you want food at your party. I found that with a 1.5 hour party, the basic party was perfect and if we had a bunch of food, we would have had less time for swimming! And, that runs you $8.75 per attendee, that's not bad at all.

photo IMG_7803_zps8l0yqvna.jpg photo IMG_7849_zpsozkr9rzz.jpgYou do get a party pack in advance of your party so you can hand out all of the invitations and you get wristbands upon arrival. The parties include supplies and admission for 20 people and you can bring in your own cake. They supply the plates and utensils. With the party, you get a reserved, covered area for your guests. And, the birthday gal/guy gets shirt and a special cup for free refills that day!

When we arrived, our party host greeted us and made sure we had what we needed. He checked in to make sure we were all doing well and when the party was wrapping up to help.  Guests can stay and swim after the party, everyone just has to move to the general seating area and out of the party area.

Some of the LouFamFun writers joined the party with their kids, here's what they had to say:

photo IMG_7827_zpsajswkqqc.jpgNicolle: The aquatic center is perfect for children of different ages. My five year old had a blast on the smaller slides, while my 9 year old enjoyed the tube slides and large lap pool. The party tent has a great location allowing for some privacy and easy access to the pool and splash pad. I appreciated the warm water and plenty of places to sit around each area.

photo IMG_7836_zpsht4kydo0.jpgLauren: The party was fun and it was an easy drive across the bridge from Louisville. I loved how the lap pool was warm. As far as the party area is concerned, it was very nice to know we had a private area to keep our things without them possibly being bothered.
