A Weekend Getaway from Louisville – Columbus, IN

DCPD

PhotobucketJust north of Louisville on I-65 is a great town of Columbus, IN. I might be bias since it is my hometown, but if your family needs a weekend getaway this summer; this might be what you are looking for. It is 90minutes north of Louisville and 45min south of Indianapolis so you could also visit Indianapolis Zoo or the Children’s Museum while in the area. The Children’s Museum is free the first Thursday of the month from 4-8pm thanks to Target.
Here are some highlights for a weekend trip to Columbus:

Lodging:

Holiday Inn has indoor pool and mini indoor putt-putt course

Abe Martin Lodge at Brown State Park has an indoor aquatic center that is free for staying there.

PhotobucketCamping at Brown County State Park

Things to Do:

Kids Commons: A great place for kids of all ages. We went there for the first time this past weekend. The website is pretty informative of what to expect. A morning or afternoon could easily be spent here. Both my sons (ages 3 and 1) had a great time. So many hands on activities from rock climbing, climbing in a giant toilet, bubble play to big arcade games. This is $6/person.

PhotobucketCommons Mall – This is right across from Kids Commons and has a free indoor playground that is huge! This just recently opened so you can still smell the newness. Slides, tons of things to climb on and explore all with a soft rubbery flooring.

Hiking and Biking at Brown County State Park – Short drive from Columbus and the park is known as the “Little Smokies”. Great hiking and views.
Among other things there is some great shopping nearby in Nashville, IN and at Edinburg Outlets or play a round of miniature golf. Don’t forget Columbus is known for its architecture so be sure and take note of all the cool buildings while you are driving around.

Places to Eat:

Zaharakos – Ice Cream Parlor and Museum

Zwanzigz Pizza – Great Pizza!

Arni’s is another place for good pizza.
