Growing up in the South End, I have known about and frequented Wagner’s Pharmacy often through the years. However, my friends thought I was crazy when they heard I was eating at a pharmacy. When I found out they had never been there we set up a girls’ lunch so they could check it out.

Wagner’s Pharmacy is located across the street from Churchill Downs on the corner of 4th Street and Central Ave. It is open from 8:00am-2:00pm and is billed as a breakfast and brunch restaurant. It can get extra busy when the track is running and especially during Derby time, but the service is quick and the food is yummy! It also is an operating pharmacy and even offers fun, Derby-inspired trinkets. If you listen closely you may also pick up some good information about the horses running across the street. The decoration is full of Derby history and is great for horse lovers!

My friends each sampled the chili (one with spaghetti, one without) and both said it was very good, not too spicy, but loaded with flavor. They each also sampled a sandwich along with it (one a grilled cheese and one a BLT) that included chips, which they also complimented. I had my favorite, a club sandwich with chips and a sweet tea. Both of my friends were impressed with the quality of food, the quick service, and the prices that went with them. They both agreed to visit Wagner’s more often for lunch and of course, I’ll be there with and without them!

Wagner’s also offers daily specials. Breakfast is served until 11:00am and lunch is served until 2:00pm. Find them on Facebook for hours, location, and menus. Wagner’s is located at 3113 S. 4th Street in Louisville, KY.
