Looking for free events this month? Let’s highlight some fun April! We know our readers like free family fun so here are some ideas for heading out with your kid without worrying about tickets!

Returning with free events in April 2024: Shakespeare in the Parks Tour; times and locations vary.

Friday, April 5: Caesars Foundation of Floyd County FamFest is one of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s 2024 Kick-off events! A FREE Family-friendly event celebrating the best parts of Festival: featuring inflatables, live music, elements of Derby Festival, face painting and more! First 500 attendees receive a custom Pegasus Pin.

Saturday, April 6: Shawnee Music Festival, join them at Shawnee Library for a community-centered, family-friendly festival with LIVE music, workshops, and connections to local resources. 11am-4pm

Monday, April 8: The Eclipse Viewing Party in Iroquois Park is held in partnership with Louisville Parks and Recreation. The gate at Uppill Road will be open 1 – 4 p.m., and attendees can drive their vehicles to the watch party site at Summit Field.

Saturday, April 13: Spring Street Festival, 12-10pm, The Alcove at 246 Spring Street. Music, food, and family fun!

Saturday, April 13: Puppy Palooza at Westport Village from 11am-2pm. Bring your furry friends to join us for a paw-some afternoon.

Saturday, April 13: Block Party, this free event, returning with the support of Churchill Downs and Humana and the Derby Festival’s Derby Equity Community Initiative (DECI), will be held at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center and will feature food trucks, a marketplace, live entertainment, and more.

Sunday, April 28: The Farmers Market at Norton Common opens for the season! The hours are 12-3pm and it will be open every Sunday. Norton Commons is a great neighborhood for walking and boasts multiple playgrounds and locally-owned businesses. Additional Farmers Markets around Louisville can be found here.

April 26-28: StoryWalk at the Parklands. Enjoy reading a children’s book while walking along the Egg Lawn Signature Trail in Beckley Creek Park. Follow the signs placed around the Egg Lawn to read the entire story.

Saturday & Sunday, April 27 & 28: Cherokee Triangle Art Fair, Artists and food vendor booths will be located on the streets surrounding Willow Park, in the Cherokee Triangle neighborhood (Cherokee Parkway between Willow Ave. and Cherokee Rd.).
