Replica Columbus Ship in Louisville

A replica of the Columbus Ship, Pinta, will be docked in Louisville for learning and exploration.

From June 22 to July 4, this amazing replica Columbus ship will be in Louisville on the waterfront.

The “Pinta”, a Replica of a Portuguese Caravel used by Columbus and many early explorers will open as a “floating museum” for dockside educational tours. The Ship will be docked at Louisville Waterfront, 131 W. River Rd, Louisville, KY, 40202

In 2005, the Pinta was Launched in Brazil after 3 years of Construction. The Ship was built by 8th Generation Portuguese Shipwrights using the same methods and hand tools that were used to build the original in the 15th Century. The Pinta was the first Ship to sight land on the famous voyage of discovery on October 12th, 1492.
 
Historians consider the “Caravel” the space shuttle of the 15th Century and was used as early as the 13th Century and into the 16th Century. The Caravel was mainly used as a typical trading vessel along the Mediterranean and African Coast before being used for Transatlantic Voyages to open up new trading routes all over the World.
 
The general public is invited to step back in time & explore the Pinta for self guided tours from the 22nd June-4th July from 9:00a-5:00p daily. No reservations are necessary.

Tickets will be available at the ship. The fees to board and explore the ships are: $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (age 60+), $6 age 5-16 (not in a school group), age 4 and under admitted for free. They also accept groups for discounted rates. And, you can book a school group. The information can be found on their website.
